Social Art is the artistic expression that aims at creating social impact and change. This definition delineates the intention of the artist as crucial. Art engages in questioning and rethinking existing systems and paradigms. Artists are visionaries, utopists, agents for change, with the ability to affect society by creating emotionally captivating experiences. It is aesthetic revolution that preludes societal revolution.

The leading judgment criteria for the Social Art Award is the strength of the artwork to create impact in regard of the topic “We are the people – Catalyzing peaceful revolutions through the power of the many”. Thus, we look for engaging artworks that reach people, unfolding their potential to stand up for their rights, their freedom and their future – Artworks that trigger peaceful solidarity and the unity of people.

You can apply with any type of artwork (painting, installation, video, music, artistic intervention, etc.). Yet you require a captivating image that visualizes your artwork. This image you will upload to the contest, explanations and details you can add in the description field.

Athens Jewelry Week, 26-31 May 2020, aims through collective action, to promote Contemporary Jewelry both in Greece and abroad, enhancing awareness and exchange of views, while establishing a dialogue between national and international designer/makers or entities active in the Contemporary Jewelry field.

In the framework of the 5th edition of Athens Jewelry Week, the organization shifts its focus to an issue that considers to be of outmost importance: Minorities and vulnerable groups, regardless of religion, nationality, gender or age, who need support, not only to deal with discrimination, racism and all forms of violence directed at them, but also to heal their wounds, claim their inalienable rights, and move forward with a creative remodeling of their lives.

Please Note: It is not a prerequisite to deal with the above issue to apply to AJW. Nevertheless, the event will welcome participants who decide to respond to the call. Because we believe that having the guts to raise a voice and take action, is essential if one wants to contribute in the shaping of the humanitarian identity that our times demand us to acquire in order to evolve as a species and help the global community and the planet.

On June 15, 2020, the Chinese mythology-themed contemporary jewelry exhibition will be open.
Each exhibitor shall design and make jewelry works according to the theme.

The reason why Greek mythology enjoys permanent charm lies in that it has been made rich and beautiful by the processing and polishing of generations of great European literati and artists. Similarly, Chinese mythology, which was wild and pristine in the primitive society, has been handed down and gone through constant changes with the changes of social nature. […]
However, Chinese mythology seems to have hit a bottleneck in modern times. In my humble opinion, one reason is that it is ignored by the rapid development of economy and technology, and another is that mere retelling of the gods’ and monsters’ images in ancient books or the stories themselves is just a formality which can hardly impress people. […]
Therefore, reflecting on our field, I believe that if we present Chinese mythology with the contemporary jewelry language, and dominate the development of Chinese mythology with our spirit and will, the new mythology created will definitely affect the next civilization.
