Inka Maarika has a strong background in Sámi handicrafts, which she uses to artistically express herself. Her artwork contains deep contrasts that originate from the artist’s own identity – a Sámi who also enjoys the urban environment. Inka Maarika skilfully utilises the material she discovers close to home and open-mindedly combines them with modern elements. In her work, Inka Maarika has boldly addressed issues related to indigenous peoples through a global perspective, while placing the differences and similarities between cultures into a new context. Inka Maarika lives and works in Inari, Lapland
