MEIRA Rauta
Viimevuosina Meira Rauta on työskennellyt juuriteeman ympärillä. Henkilökohtaisten juuriemme kiemurat, mutta myös geneettinen ja kulttuurinen taustamme vaikuttavat meihin ihmisinä voimakkaasti. Ravinto, jota vuosituhantisen perintömme maaperästä tietoisesti ja tiedostamatta imemme, ilmenee monin tavoin persoonallisuudessamme, toiminnassamme ja taiteessamme. Mitä tänään luomme ja päätämme, sävyttää myös tulevien sukupolvien taiteilijoiden kädenjälkeä. Kun valtion tuki taiteelle vähenee, on tärkeää kysyä, millaisen kulttuuriperinnön jätämme jälkipolville? Onko tulevaisuuden maaperä yhtä ravitsevaa ja muhevaa, kuin missä omat juuremme ovat saaneet kasvaa?
Meira Rauta on tehnyt koruja vuodesta 2008. Hän on koulutukseltaan korumuotoilija ja jalometallialan artesaani. Meiraa kiehtoo kehoyhteyden vaikutus teoksen tunnelmaan: yksin jalustallaan oleva teos voi olla veistoksellinen esine, jota ei tule ajatelleeksi koruksi ennen kuin sillä on yhteys kehoon.

In recent years Meira Rauta has been working around the theme of roots. The twists and turns of our personal roots but also genetic and cultural backgrounds have a strong influence on us as a human beings. The nourishment we absorb from the soil of our millennial heritage, consciously and unconsciously, manifests itself in many ways in our personality, our actions and our art. This holds true also for the artists of the next generation and beyond. As the governmental support for art dwindles, it is important to ask and reflect on what kind of cultural heritage are we leaving for posterity? Will the soil of the future be as nutritious and fertile as that where our own roots have prospered?
Meira Rauta has made jewelry since 2008 and she is a jewelry designer and a goldsmithing artesan by training. Meira is fascinated by the sculptural nature of jewelry: a thrilling idea that a work on its stand is like a sculpture and can only be seen as a jewelry through body connection.
